🌿 Something to Think About

“Rich and poor have this in common:
The Lord is the Maker of them all.”
— Proverbs 22:2 (NIV)

As an empty nest mom, I’ve noticed something.

The house gets quieter…
but the thoughts get louder.

Sometimes they’re random.
Sometimes they’re reminders.
Sometimes they’re gentle nudges I can’t ignore.

Today’s thought stopped me.

There are people sleeping outside tonight.

And my car is safe in the garage.

That reality hit differently.

I find myself worrying about organizing shelves. Rearranging storage bins. Protecting what I own. Meanwhile, someone would consider that same space a blessing.

Proverbs reminds me that no matter how different our circumstances look, we were all made by the same God.

The same Creator.

The same Father.

Comfort can quietly numb awareness if I’m not careful.
Security can make me forget how fragile life really is for others.

Empty nesting has created space in my home…
but maybe it’s also creating space in my heart.

Space to notice.
Space to care.
Space to ask God,

“What do You want me to see?”

I don’t write this from guilt.
I write it from perspective.

We lock our doors. We protect our vehicles. We secure our homes.

But what about the people who don’t have doors to lock?

What is something in your life that feels ordinary to you… but might be a blessing someone else is praying for?

Just something to think about.

Direct Sales vs. MLM: Let’s Clear This Up (Once and For All)

If you’ve ever shared your business online and immediately heard,
“Isn’t that an MLM?” 🙃

…friend, you are not alone.

There is a lot of confusion out there about what direct sales is, what MLM is, and whether they’re the same thing. Some people use the terms interchangeably. Others feel strongly that they’re completely different.

The truth? It’s a little more nuanced than the internet makes it sound.

Let’s break it down in plain English so you can speak confidently about what you do.

First: What Is Direct Sales?

Direct sales is a method of selling products directly to customers outside of a traditional retail store.

Think:

  • Online parties

  • Social media selling

  • In-person events

  • Vendor markets

  • Personal websites

  • VIP groups

At its core, direct sales is simply:

Person-to-person product selling.

You earn money from:

  • Your personal product sales

  • Customer relationships

  • Repeat buyers

If you love connecting with people and recommending products you actually use, direct sales is the engine that makes that possible.

✔ Product-focused
✔ Relationship-driven
✔ Flexible and home-based friendly

So… What Is MLM?

MLM stands for multi-level marketing.

MLM is a specific compensation structure inside the direct sales world.

Key feature:

You can earn from your own sales and potentially from the sales of a team you build.

That’s it. That’s the defining difference.

In an MLM-style structure, income can come from:

  • Personal sales

  • Team commissions (if you choose to build)

  • Bonuses tied to group performance

Here’s Where People Get Confused

This is the part most people miss:

👉 All MLM companies are direct sales.
👉 But not all direct sales businesses are team-focused.

Many modern direct sales companies — including Red Aspen — are heavily customer-first and product-driven, even though a team option exists.

That means two things can be true at the same time:

  • Yes, there is a team structure available

  • AND many ambassadors primarily run retail-based businesses

Both statements can be accurate.

What Most Customers Actually Care About

Let’s be real for a second. 💕

Your customers are usually asking one thing:

“Are you selling me a good product — or just trying to recruit me?”

And that’s a fair question in today’s world.

What builds trust is how you run your business, not just the label someone slaps on it.

When your content shows:

  • 💅 real product use

  • 📦 real customer service

  • 💬 real relationships

  • 🛍️ real retail sales

…people quickly see the difference.

How I Personally Run My Business

Here’s the honest heart behind what I do:

I am a Red Aspen Brand Ambassador in direct sales.

My focus is:

  • serving customers

  • sharing products I genuinely love

  • helping women feel confident and put together

  • building a flexible business that fits real life

Yes — there is an optional team component in the company structure.

But my day-to-day business is built on customers first. Always.

Why This Conversation Matters

Words matter.

Transparency matters.

And in today’s online world, people are right to ask questions.

But it’s also important to understand that:

  • Not every direct sales business looks the same

  • Not every ambassador runs their business the same way

  • And the industry has evolved a LOT over the years

The best businesses — in any model — are built on:

  • integrity

  • great products

  • real relationships

  • and showing up consistently

The Bottom Line

If you remember nothing else, remember this:

Direct sales = the method of selling.
MLM = a possible compensation structure within direct sales.

You can absolutely run a strong, customer-focused direct sales business that is product-driven, relationship-based, and built with integrity.

And that’s exactly what many of us are doing every single day. 💖

If you’re curious about the products I personally use and share, I’d love to have you follow along on my journey — whether you’re here for the nails, the lashes, or just the real-life behind the scenes.

We’re building something fun over here. 💅🩷
